A nuggety midfielder, Hutchings struggled to have an impact in his first stint on an AFL list as a rookie at St Kilda, but a return to Perth and the WAFL led to an opportunity when the Eagles took him with their last pick in the 2012 draft.
Coming in to the team when injuries opened up a spot, Hutchings performed certainly at an AFL level, though probably still has a long way to go to cement a team. Has a bit of Matt Priddis in his history though, and looks like the type to put in the hard yards.
Becoming a semi-regular by the 2017 season, Hutchings locked in a place as a defensive midfielder later in the 2018 season, resulting in his selection in the Eagles 2018 Grand Final team, where he was a key player with an impressive shutdown job on Collingwood playmaker Steele Sidebottom. |
