 Player Information
A smaller-than-Eagles-standard midfielder, Chris Masten was the standout WA player at the 2007 draft and was not a surprise for the Eagles to take with pick three, gained in the trade of Chris Judd to Carlton.

The high draft position left a heavy weight of expectation coming down on Masten's shoulders, and he quickly became a popular choice for criticism when he did not develop exceptionally quickly. However by the 2012 season Masten had developed into a solid (though perhaps not world shattering) midfielder, with some of the flaws in his game ironing out as his development continued. There is still room for improvement in his game, and if he can take a further step he could develop into a notable midfielder.

Masten was a key player in the Eagles rise in 2015, but missed a chunk of the late season through suspension then injury, which left him a bit lacking in match fitness for finals games where he struggled to make an impact. But overall he has proven a useful if not outstanding part of the Eagles main 22.
