A tall defensive player, Matt Spangher was a long term prospect when picked up in the 2005 draft, and when injuries limited his time at WAFL level in his first couple of seasons with the club, it looked less likely that he would be retained. The Eagles hierarchy however elected to renew Spangher's contract at the end of 2007, and a good preseason allowed him to press for selection with the team early in the 2008 season.
A lack of opportunites however led Spangher to request a change of club, which led him initially to Sydney, then to Hawthorn where he became a regular in the 2014 season, becoming part of the Hawks' 2014 premiership team. |
