Andrew McDougall was one of the bigger disappointments in his time at the Eagles. The great white hope for a long period after his high draft selection, injuries kept him out of the team until the final round of the 2002 season. After that, he had a very chequered career, the occasional high point surrounded by too many games at a lower than acceptable mark. On occasion the talent that led him to be a top five pick would shine through, but it was too rare to retain a spot, and after 38 games to the end of 2006 he was traded to the Western Bulldogs, where he played just five games before retiring in the middle of the 2008 season.
Injuries certainly played a part in ruining McDougall's career, but a seeming lack of heart and desire probably contributed even more so to the underwhelming nature of his AFL career. |
