Player Information |

After an abortive start to a career in the VFL with Hawthorn in 1985, Malaxos was chosen as one of the inaugural West Coast squad in 1986 after exercising a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the Hawks for any WA team that might be formed.
Malaxos was one of the stars of the 1980s Eagles team, indeed holding a still current club possession count of 48 in a game in the final week of 1987, a season in which he was the club's first ever club champion. While injuries caused him to miss large parts of the 1988 and 1989 seasons, he was still a more than prominent player when available for selection.
With the arrival of Mick Malthouse at the club in 1990, Malaxos was given the captaincy of the club, but it was a relationship that eventually soured when he was dropped during the finals, and never played again (though he was on the list for 1991, the captaincy was taken over by John Worsfold).
Post AFL football, Malaxos played for years mostly at East Fremantle in the WAFL before being at times an assistant coach at the Sydney Swans and Fremantle. |
