The Footy Show

Now that Eddy Everywhere has returned to the footy show will ppl tune in.

Back when i was a kid the show was an absolute staple.
Then it commenced at 9.30pm and it was the only time dad let my brother and i stay up on a weeknight to 10.30pm.

My interest in the show has waned a fair bit since Garry left the show. I'll probably tune in next time to see if the format has changed to actually include more football related discussion rather than shit gags.

I'm glad Eddie is back. Lyon is like Carey and lost all respect. At least the show will be more about footy again now.

Hope so. I rarely watch more than 10mins of the show these days. Having 2 'hosts' is a waste of time. Dont know why they had to bring in Maddern either, probably because Brayshaw was a weak anchor.

As opposed to Hutchy, who is just a w anchor

I barely watched any last season and haven't seen a single minute of it this year, but I'll probably have a look tomorrow night.

It will be interesting to see whether Sam manages to reign it in. My feeling is he is so out of touch with the modern game he really has no place commenting on it anymore.

Same, same. Marngrook is actually about footy.

Going going gone and good riddance. Long past its use by date which was probably mid nineties.

I never watched the new format but noticed it included Brendan Fevola so absolutely made sure I never stopped on the program if channel surfing.

Was an okay show in the 90s, but became too commercial and a vehicle for Eddy to promote Collingwood. As the ratings went down Newman's appalling behaviour increased. 'Front Bar' is terrific and I also like 'Up the Guts' probably only because Laurence Mooney hosts it.

I listened to Peter Ford's take on the death of The Footy Show this morning. He made a couple of points that I couldn't help agreeing with. His contention basically is that the age of political correctness we currently live in was the most direct cause for the show's decline and eventual cancellation. Particularly with segments like "Street Talk", the show used to poke fun at anybody and everybody. Over time, social standards changed and people started to take issue with this side of the show. Whether is was people taking genuine offense on their own behalf or going all sjw on behalf of someone else, the humour was slowly squeezed out and the show just lost any sort of appeal. It couldn't be recast as a focused footy discussion after what it once was and it had no other direction to go in.

Will be interesting to see where Ch 9 go from here - whether they come up with a different concept for a footy show or abandon the idea completely and just have their Sunday Footy Show as the only AFL-centric show on their network.

Agree, I loved the show back when it was funny as, and vegans, cyclists and the like were not offended by everything.

I think it just eventually became tired and Channel 7 put up a better alternative.

It just progressively dumbed down. Became less about football and more about Sam/Eddie or whoever.
When you run out of new ideas you just repeat the old or do something to get attention. Usually something idiotic.

Long, long past its use by date.

Note - no matter how bad this pile of pre-pubescent stinking turd was, it was never as bad as the NRL version. That truly was a show for the sub-sub-average IQ viewer.

Society changes, but somehow the footy show kept the same old dinosaurs doing the same old poo week-in and week-out. Pretty much sums up network TV in general, and Channel Nine in particular: dinosaur executives flogging the same old dead horses, while the rest of the world binge watches on streaming services. That shit belongs in the archives with Daryl Sommers, Bert Newton, and Baby John Burgess. Ok, maybe not Baby John.
