I dont know what the official injury report is but could be a few weeks.

Thats the 3rd player to do his ankle in 2018.

Report will be out tomorrow arvo.

Hopefully not long and they bring him straight back in and not leave him stuck at EP.

I think if Venables misses, Ainsworth will come in. Against a terrible Carlton another chance to blood a kid.

I love JK, Darling has been really good and Waterman a fantastic opening 4 games. But with those three and both NN and Lycett, and despite the big score v Suns, it just feels top heavy.

If Venables misses then maybe Ainsworth. Allen or Brander are more talls so will be lucky to get a game. Does Waterman have the tank to be a big mid? Are we reaching the single ruckman stage with Darling or Waterman taking some time in the middle?

For what it offered I really liked the 4 small forwards (Ryan, LeCras, Rioli, Cripps) rotating as three through the forwards and occasionally seeing Cripps or LeCras in the middle.

I thought Masten would struggle for a game this year and there was a ready spot for Ainsworth or Petrucelle on the wing, but he has obviously worked really hard on his weaknesses over the off season. Will always be a slow, endurance sort but what he has worked on is disposal. Instead of being a turnover king, it is obvious he has been looking for targets and has been better at hitting them. See how he goes in the high pressure, less time games he will get against Tigers, Crows, GWS, Hawks etc. But credit where credit is due, has been 10 times better than expected this year.

Even the most ardent of Masten critics would have to applaud his game this year. He has changed his role as a player. He isn't the high half forward of recent years and now links up defence to attack. His role change and current form has allowed Gaff to spend more time in the middle and to drift forward. He is also kicking goals.

If you're an AFL Fantasy coach you could do worse than to get Masten into your team. He was equal top fantasy point scorer over the weekend.

Absolutley, if he can be consistent now, he will become a favourite soon enough. Chris is getting better with each round he plays.

Looked that way, horrible stuff, gives another kid an opportunity. Hope they make the most of it.

:(

Maybe it's good we're playing at the MCG this round and not Ankle Killer Stadium

In same interview Simmo said they are looking at the turf. It is still hard.

4 ankles in 2 weeks. Shuey, Ryan, Venables and Guthrie. They have all been down the stage area from the concert.

Ah Chee also had an ankle but that was at Leederville.

Petruccelle/Karpany for Venables.
Hutchings/Ainsworth/Partington for Shuey if he doesn't recover.
Hutchings/Ainsworth/Partington for Redden if he doesn't recover.
Cole/Schofield for Sheppard if he doesn't recover.

For genuine mids only Partington, Hutchings and Ainsworth are performing.

Petruccelle had 18 touches last EP game as a half forward/mid, knows where the goals are. Karpany 26 after 5 in the first game.

Ah Chee as the smokey. If EP had played last week he would have played. Do they bring him in slighty under done or a week at EP.

This game against Carlton doesn't look so "easy" now.

This Optus stadium turf is really starting to do some damage - the Eagles better be absolutely kicking up a stink to Stadium Management over the condition of the turf. Looks sub-par on the broadcast, and seems unsafe for players. Add to that the unprotected LED signage that cut up Geelong, and you've got to wonder what they are doing.

This is a great opportunity to bring in Partington and give him extended midfield minutes.

Shepp will get up - the bloke is tough as nails.

Out: Venebles, Shuey
In: Hutchings, Partington

Would like to see Yeo head to head with Cripps.

This is just horrible news.

Plus with Shuey, Shep and Redden all carrying injuries, we are looking super thin.

I just hope that when injuries like this happen, we use the chance to get games into guys like Partington, Ainsworth, Petrucelle and Brander.

Carlton are going to see us as vulnerable. At the MCG and lots of injuries. This game has ramped up in importance.

Regardless of the location, I don't think you could attribute Ryan's injury to the turf.

That said, if the ground is indeed as hard as is being reported, its a problem that needs addressing post-haste.
