Antique Furniture Restorers?

Postby Eliot Mess on Wed Jun 22, 2016 12:28 pm

My wife has acquired a Tall Boy Chest of's old (1860s) but has probs. I need a good honest restorer to tell me if it is worth doing or ...." Dreamin'!"

Anybody got a lead...someone who does old stuff repairs and is reasonably fair and honest?

I have no idea, but I hope you're able to.
It would be such a nice change from all the IKEA vomit.

It's sad that such skills (ie REAL cabinet making) are disappearing.
You'd think there'd be a market to transfer those skills to developing nations where labour is cheap, and we could at least import good quality furniture. But sadly that does not seem to be the case. I've lived and worked in Indonesia and Viet Nam, and a few colleagues arrived with a suitcase and departed with a container full of furniture. But it mostly looked like it had been cut with a chainsaw.
And besides, that big IKEA factory in China can churn out chipboard even cheaper.
