Congrats to Daniel Ricciardo for taking over Mark Webber's Red Bull F1 spot. It's going to be great to be able to support a West Aussie and a fellow Eagles fan!

Hope he gives Vettel a run for his money.

Great news for Ricciardo. Getting a drive in the top team is every young F1 drivers dream. He has shown some pretty good form this year and if Red Bull can stay at the top from the start next year with the new engines (V6 turbos), he should be contending with the top end of the pack rather than the middle group. At times this year, he did give some of the big boys a bit of a run for their money, so it looked obvious he has some talent. However, were he to be a genuine threat to Vettel, he wouldn't be getting too many favours from Horner as Vettel is Horner's favourite boy. Webber found that one out. Horner wants constructors points, but no threat to Vettel. Probably why they went with Ricciardo rather than Raikonen.
In any case it will be a great opportunity for Ricciardo to gain valuable experience and if good enough, set himself up to command a drive with any top team.

Hope he accidentally runs into the number one car at some point.

Or doesn't understand instructions conveniently.

Considering the Renault engine is down on power compared to the Merc, he did exceptionally well. Didn't put a foot wrong all weekend. Looks particularly good in the wet, which usually separates the really good from the rest. Early days yet, but the signs are good.
The $3+m his dad has invested in him since carts is really paying off now.
Once they get that motor up to scratch, the Adrian Newy car will be streets ahead as has been the case for a while now.

Special mention too should go to Magnussen, first F1 race and a podium. True to Finnish tradition.

Yes, very well said. The commentators said half of Perth's Italian community was over there to support him and they were very loud.

However, all that driver good work could be undone. As the Boat points out, he may be disqualified because the car exceeded the new fuel row rule.

Oh FFS

Just looked it up...

"Daniel Ricciardo’s second-place finish in Sunday’s season-opening race in Australia is under threat after his Red Bull car was found to have ‘exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100 kg/h’ - a breach of Article 5.1.4 of the technical regulations.

The FIA’s technical delegate Jo Bauer has referred the matter to the race stewards in Melbourne who must now decide whether to take action. Ricciardo's podium finish was the first of his career."

Can't see how they can let it go. If the race stewards let it go, the other teams will no doubt make a protest. F**k it!!

Just to correct the nationality of Magnussen, he's Danish, not Finnish  . If I could remember which commentator said he is Finnish the other day, I'd send him an email and call him a dick

I must admit I know nothing about Formula One Racing , however it appears that unlike the AFL it is governed by rules which are applied equally to all contestants and upheld without fear or favour to whomever they apply , and in a timely manner .
Both congratulations and condolences go to Daniel Ricciardo for his outstanding performance and demeanour .

On technical matters they are pretty much by the book. On driver infringements there has been a bit of contention at times. They tend to favour a bit, the golden boy of the day. Schummaker got away with a bit and Vettel like wise, although Vettel hasn't pushed the boundaries as much as Schummaker or Senna.
The only one really that stands out with Vettel was they season before last, final race and the championship hinged on that race. Vettel appeared to breach the no passing rule on the yellow flag in 2 separate incidents and the commentators pick the first one up straight away. Had the stewards given him a drive thru' or stop stop start penalty, Alonso would have won the championship. The second incident showed from an independent source the next day that Vettel had infringed again.
But generally, really passionate F1 drivers will push the boundaries and sometimes they get away with it and sometimes they don't.
Below, interviews of the 2 greatest drivers of all time shows that their passion to win often raises eyebrows and they were so similar with their attitude to win.

Really miss Senna.
