PA - Dixon (202)/Westhoff (199)
SYD - Franklin (196)/Reid (196)

Obviously there can be more than one tall forward but like I said there's usually only one key focal point.

Looking through the above list in each of those combinations, possibly excepting Hawthorn, each has one player who is the primary avenue to goal, who mids regularly look for and the forward line is structured around, and then a tall who plays a secondary role- cf Kennedy/Darling at west coast.

My point is really that learning to play that key role is hard if you're not getting opportunities in that key role and that is plainly what we have been drafting to cover for when Kennedy retires. The tricky thing for Waterman and Brander is going to be getting sufficient time to develop in a key role, in a team with an obvious dominant forward, a high quality secondary tall, and a two ruck rotation which rests forward.

Just on that, I haven't thought about it but with Cameron/Franklin/Walker/Dixon, it would be interesting to look at how their careers developed- did they start off in teams without another obvious dominant forward or do lengthy apprenticeships in secondary roles.

On Brander, early days yet, but I think he is obviously a bit too good for WAFL and is not going to get much from a lengthy apprenticeship - there are plenty of teams around the comp where he'd be starting 22 each week.

I'm guessing it is all part of a player's development. The more positions you can play the more likely you are to have longevity. Darling has been able to swing from the secondary target to the key target and back again. Brander will be fine and he will get better. I agree that already he appears to be above WAFL level. What's exciting is that he performed when they got belted and when EP had a win. We have plenty to be excited about with our youngsters. I can't wait to see Ainsworth, Brander, O.Allen, and Petruccelle get a game. I'm hoping we will see them all this year.

Talk that JK will start playing managed minutes during games from now on. Normally he plays the whole game.

That's a good chance to have that extra young tall in the team to fill his position on the field when he rests on the bench.

It would be a concern if both JK and NN are playing and having their minutes managed? For the non expert like me it would have to be that when NN is on, JK is off and vice versa?

Im with FJ.

It means we are effectively playing with 2 players on the bench as the other 2 spots are for guys playing managed minutes.

NN said last week was his last week on 50 percent game time and it would be reassessed when interviewed after the game last week.

Just hope the selectors have gotten the height verses mobility right. I suppose Yeo will run more through the guts.

Seems silly to me. If he gets a bit fatigued then just rest him up in the forward line!

There is something wrong with the surface at the southen end, in the last 2 weeks 3 players have gone down with leg injuries in that area.

It is where the stage for the Ed concert was.

Yea, the turf at Optus is really disappointing these first few rounds

While we're on it - are a few lights out in the back pocket this quarter?

Maybe I need a new TV...

Good game all round really - with a young team these games against easy beats can be dangerous... glad we stayed on task

Lost the 3rd 1/4 again though. I know it was a drubbing but our 3rd fadeouts won't wash against very good teams. Nearly dropped it against the cats. I have no idea why as there was no huge pressure from Gold coast.
