Matt Priddis retirement

Postby farmer joe on Fri Jul 28, 2017 11:49 am

Lets keep it all together.

Well done Matt. Made the absolute most from the talents he was given. Hopefully he is kept in the system as an example to kids of what true effort can achieve.

Absolutely got 110% out of himself. A great servant of the club.

He has been a huge servant to a club and does deserve his own retirement thread.

He went for one season too long but you can't deny what he has given us over the years.

After the club already extended his contract for one more year???!!??

In any event, well done Priddy Boy, you'll retire as a Brownlow Medalist - not many players get to have that in their trophy cabinet. Amazing work ethic and getter of the very hard ball.

As I said in another thread, it just shows the utter integrity of the great man with him retiring before his contract expires.

I don't think anyone saw the end coming this quickly, but father time claims another victim.

Gave nothing but 100% every week and from what I hear had immaculate preparation and recovery methods throughout his career. Never met the bloke but know plenty that have and say he is a champion bloke off the field too.

Will miss those moments of a pack coming up after the whistle is blown and seeing those curls on the last bloke to get up from the bottom of the pack. And who could forget setting the world record for tackles?

Forever an Eagles legend with that Brownlow around his neck. Cheers Matt!

Great that we now all move on and reflect on his achievements, rather than some of the more negative comments that have been popping up when his name has been mentioned.

He is a champion of the club and game, a true success story that shows you what you can get out of life with an absolute commitment to something. Hopefully it will help drive the team to send him out in the best possible way. I'd put him in the same calibre as someone like Pav with respect to the kind of person he is....and people like these deserve a flag for everything they bring to the game and their team.

Thanks for the memories - hope you get to make a couple more before the season is out.

Class act. What a selfless decision.
A poor 2017, but hopefully that won't detract from what he did for this team in his prime. Brownlow medal winners aren't exactly a dime a dozen.

Have respect for the fact he made the call when the club didn't have the balls to. Retired at the perfect time really. If he kept playing on it would only have damaged his legacy.

Hope he sticks around in a coaching role.

I agree, gave his heart and soul for this club, the greatest tackler the game has ever seen. Love you Matty. Enjoy retirement. :(

He just saved someone's arse big time ... whoever it was that thought an extra year on his contract was a good idea.

Agree, shows what sort of bloke he is. Will be sorely missed. Hopefully he looks to coach at another club.

Congratulations on a great career Matty, and I'm glad the club signed him for another year as a golden handshake. Class all around.

Brilliant in his prime and got the most out of himself, proven by his rise from rookie to brownlow medalist.
