Hawthorns 1st pick is 32 and they don't seem to have the cattle to trade decent players to us. Saints have picks 7 and 8 but don't have the midfield swap it would take for us to be happy now that Acres has re-signed. Would Gaff for pick 8 be enough or could we squeeze something more out of them?

Gaff and pick 13 --> Josh Bruce and pick 8

We get a 5 pick upgrade on our 1st and a replacement for Kennedy.

Thoughts?

Don't think he's planning on going anywhere. Just moved/moving into new house.

Wouldn't happen to be in Claremont would it? :(

Not actively. His name only came up in rumors. He half requested a trade and was under contract still.

Out of contract and actually put on the trade table him might get a bit more interest. Probably worth nothing more than a 4th rounder maybe a 3rd if we threw a 4th rounder pick in with him.

He just hasn't developed and is too inconsistent.

Always had that query on what position he'd play at AFL level. I would have liked to have seen him on a wing or even a few games in the midfield to see what he offered. Problem is the coaching staff don't seem to be gutsy enough to try different things.

We are still being linked to Fasolo and also Tom Hickey for some reason. I can't see why we'd need another ruck given we have Naitanui, Lycett, Vardy and McInnes.

That's a weird one. If we wanted a ruck it will be in one of the drafts and develop them.

Fasolo isn't even in the country at the moment and hasn't met with Pies or anyone.

Vardy and McInnes are forwards who ruck. If lycett and Naitanui can't play some games next year we will be left with what we had this year...two pinch hitters. If we have learned anything from 2017 is that we need a specialist ruck otherwise we will lose the I50s and clearances. I have been on the record saying we must draft another specialist ruckman. I would prefer a mature aged ruck from a second tier comp (20-22 year old) that can develop. I can see what they're doing, but we don't want to give up useful draft picks for a fringe player.

We wouldn't have been exposed as badly in the ruck if we had a 2 or even 3 dimensional midfield.

I dont think hickey would want to do a jon griffin, that is come in and play 3rd fiddle to the 2 main rucks.

Saints paid a first rounder for him, whilst he wouldn't be worth that now in a trade they would still want probably a second rounder for him, can't justify that for someone who is essentially depth. It would be nice to have 3 ruckmen who are all worthy of starting roles, but really gotta pick your battles and ruck isn't a spot we should be investing even more money and picks in (already have a3 top 30 picks invested in there with Naitanui Lycett and McInnes.) and over a million dollars a year too.

Streaker, exactly what I think he looks like. Gaff on one side, Lamb on the other with Jetta playing off the back of the square. In these days of 4 man interchange, playing three wings/mids is not unreasonable.

West Coast have emerged as the most likely destination for frustrated Port Adelaide midfielder Brendon Ah Chee in this year’s trade period.

Not sure about offing him but the jungle drums over east are getting louder and louder.

“I’m talking of a Melbourne official when asked was Gaff any chance of ending up at the Demons, and he said ‘we are in the queue behind Hawthorn’.

“I’m not saying that Hawthorn are at the front of the queue, but clearly there is a queue and Andrew Gaff would be a handy pickup.”

While the Eagles see the 25-year old as a required player, he is adamant if the right proposal is accepted, Gaff would be accepting of a move home.

Hawthorn offering up next years 1st rounder according to rumblings. Next years draft is stronger than this years.

Gossage also said that we were in with a chance for Kelly.

We are talking replacing a quality player that is important to our team entering his prime with a hit or miss 18 year old from this/next years draft. That will take 4-5 years to develop.

That defies common sense IMO.

Gaff - picked at #4 in a draft and probably would be ranked as one of the best 4 picked from that year in a hindsight draft. Been very durable, missing few games with injury. 156 in 7 years is excellent. Only 3 others of the top 10 have cracked 100 and none more than 129 (Heppell). The nearest I can find to his total is Darling (151) and Howe (141); and neither of those would rank as highly as a player.

And they offer a hit or miss pick for next year that will probably be near the bottom of the top 10 at best, probably in the range 8-12.

Got to be kidding.

Apparently, Gold Coast are offering the contracted Aaron Hall as part of the Ablet trade.

Worth a little interest?
