Not very chatty.

Still waiting to hear what the other boys have to say. All the focus seems to be on Allen, Brander and Ryan.

Understandably a Very shy kid from the looks of it., i hope he can adjust to AFL smoothly.

Also, not just Priddis's jumper out of action in 2018, no one has taken on Sam Butler's 26 either

Interested to watch this draft year in some detail. Having traded away 2018's first pick for this draft, at this stage it seems like a reasonable strategy, but time will tell - this group will form a core group of Eagles for a long time.

Ultimately, that trade got us Oscar Allen (pick 21) and Liam Ryan (pick 26). Based on Ryan alone (from his first 3 games) the potential is there to be a game winner - you often don't get that from a first round pick anyway.

Oscar Allen I have high hopes for - he is the definition of 'potential' - could be anything from Fyfe to Tony Notte.

Brander will hopefully be our next KPF for the next 8 years once Kennedy retires.

I'm thinking of the 2010 draft - Gaff, Darling, Lycett, Mcgovern (rookie) - one of those years which needs to form ~20% of your best 22 going forward.

Yep, so far so good.

A lot of the top picks are already playing for their teams in the first few rounds, I don't think this draft was as bad as they thought.

Agree.

Across the entire comp there seems to be more of this draft playing than was expected, and making an impact. Good pickups in the twenties like Kelly and Ryan have already established themselves as regulars.

In many ways this is our make or break draft. We stacked picks in the 20's and 30's and have hopefully recruited well.
CouchPotato talked about the 2010 draft...'I'm thinking of the 2010 draft - Gaff, Darling, Lycett, Mcgovern (rookie) - one of those years which needs to form ~20% of your best 22 going forward.' which was great for us. We need to get a lot more than one or two senior regulars out of this crop.
Compare 2010 to 2011 (shocker, from the main draft none left), 2012 (shocker, from the main draft only Hutchings left), 13 (ok but not enough, Sheed, Barrass regulars), 14 (Duggan, Nelson regular/fringe getting games), and (a bit early to tell but looking slim) 15 and 16. Statistically, to rotate the list every 9-10 years (allowing occasional injuries etc.) you need to get 2 lock-in best 22, 1 regular and 1 fringe/occasional/pushing for selection out of each draft. We haven't done that for over 1/2 a decade.

Part is players picked, part is we never give them a game. We stick with what we have and don't blood our youth.

We only gave 2 debuts last year (lowest in AFL). We have given 4, maybe this week 5, so far this year. Something we are setting club records for.

2013 we traded in Yeo - that's a win right there, 2012 we got Cripps and medium value Wellingham, and in 2011 we got Josh Hill who was good value for a number of years.

Don't write them off completely.

Each one cost us draft picks so should be included as part of the overall draft strategy

Interesting indicative draft order for 2018. At current ladder positions, we would have given up pick 17 to GC after trading our first round pick and picked up their pick 24 (GC second round).

In essence it means:

Traded to GC: Pick 17 (2018)
Received: Picks 21, 26 and 38 (2017) and 24 (2018)

A bargain by any standards

I know that it is unlikely that we will lose the GF this year, but it's fun to look at.
