Pretty sure Hill was close to being delisted by the Bulldogs when we took him. I'd say pick 49 was overs.

You can only compare with others in the draft. If we drafted a player in the late 40s who played 100+ games and kicked 100+ goals, you would have to be reasonably satisfied.

In the worst drafting effort ever we only used picks 23 (Murray Newman), pick 28 (Fraser McInnes) and pick 63 to rookie upgrade Ashton Hams, so pick 49 was surplus. The thinking may have been to give away something generous we were never going to use and get a bit of 'trading credit' in the bank.
And the 2011 rookie draft was just as bad. Only Tunbridge (10 games) made it onto the field.

Edit - out of that draft we have got the grand total of 66 games. Hams (39), Mcinnes (11), Tunbridge (10), Newman (6). Has there ever been a worse one? By any club?

Yep we botched that one. We did however have a great 2010 draft. Gaff, Darling, Lycett and McGovern are all key contributors

A top 10 rookie selection isn't really a top 10 anything (and Sinkers was rookie pick 12 anyway). He was effectively pick 104 that year (not including PSD picks, but including rookie promotions).

In hindsight Sinclair would have been way more useful to us, but you'd have had to predict that we'd lose both Naitanui and Lycett for an entire season (minus one game).

I still think jetta for sinclair was the correct call.

1 player was surplus, the other type of player we needed.

Im just not sure how.long we can persist with Jettas inconsistencies for.

Is 2018 his last year on contract?

There is some motivation.

I reckon we just put up with his inconsistency, he's never gonna be a 20+ possession player, or in our best 10 players.
But worth having for when those good moments come, like coming off the square in the Port final.
If you have a good enough core of quality players, you can have these add ons who finish off a list. We don't have that core, but I think he's better than adding another slow mid who can't kick.

McInnes, Watson and Bayok all signed 1-year extensions.

Didn't realise the rookie rules had changed. Cat A rookies can now play without waiting for an elevation. Watson has also been moved onto the Cat A list.

Apparently we're in discussion with the Bulldogs for downgrading our pick 13 for 2 picks they receive in Stringer trade with Essenscum. Think its 25 and 30. Bulldogs also have pick 28.

Id do pick 13 and our 2018 2nd rounder for pick 25, 28 and Bulldogs 2018 1st.

If Gaff does leave next year, it would give us 3 picks between 10-18 in next years supposedly strong draft, assuming Gaff gets us a Band 1 or 2 compo.

Could be our best chance for a quick rebuild.

So we lose 13 and end up with 25 and 30?

So no first and 3 second rounders?

This isn't a super deep draft.

This would be a good outcome if we had any academy or father suns, as 25 and 30 are worth 756 and 629 and pick 13 is worth 1212. If we wanted points this would be great. However I don't think so. There isn't going to be another pick in there.

This
West Coast and Port Adelaide are still in discussions over Brendon Ah Chee. With the Eagles' pick No.50 off the table in a straight swap, the clubs are waiting to see how the Power's other deals fall before settling a trade for Ah Chee. It could involve pick slides.

Seems to indicate that Port don't want our pick 69 and WCE don't want to hand over pick 50. Ports third pick is 49 and given they are loading up with players, maybe they will only take 3 players and only need 3 picks. I would be Surprised if the WCE used more than 3 picks.
So that trade will happen and if the WCE take the 2 picks from the WBs then 50 would be surplus and they'll give it to port. Otherwise I think Port will go for pick 32 in return for 49 or a next years.

Gone to GCS for a set of toothpicks (not even steak knives). Adelaide get pick 39 and give up Wigg, pick 54 and 2018 4th rounder. Clearly just wanted rid of him.
