OMFG! - Britain has voted to leave the EU

Postby Crazy Dazz on Fri Jun 24, 2016 5:27 pm

I suppose in a way we should have seen this coming. A lot of Brits have been getting steadily pissed off with many of the issues pushed upon them by the EU.

I suspect chief among them has been the "they took our jobs" argument.

I wonder if this will open the way for closer economic ties with "the old country"? Our exports to the UK took a hammering when they first entered the ECC.
Hopefully Mal will be straight on the phone to negotiate an FTA.

Every region in Scotland voted stay. Think there's a good chance of another referendum.

Nicola Sturgeon (Scottish First Minister) is already running around pushing for it.
Before the last one it was all 'The SNP will respect whatever decision the Scottish people make Blah Blah Blah'. But we all knew that if she lost she would take the earliest opportunity to push for a new vote. It has come sooner than we all thought.
The SNP are like the Quebecois - we will keep having votes until we get the result we want.

Financially England would be better off without Scotland. Even in the oil years it ran a negative. Even though Scotland was providing more tax dollars per person to the treasury than England, it was taking MUCH more back in payments, about £1100 per person per year. Now the oil price is down the figure would be much worse. And the oil will run out.

But the Scots have never forgiven the English for Mary Queen of Scots, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Culloden, and every other defeat or slight of the past 500 years.

Another vote coming for sure.
