Cripps of 2015 is certainly best 22. Was this year just a bit of a downer? or just following the general performance curve and is beginning to slide.

Cripps is a confidence player and lacked consistency this year. He is a better player than his 2017 performances. Hopefully he finds form and has a real impact.

The WCE will be playing a lot of youngsters in 2018. I think it is part of their two year plan to refresh the list and have a crack in 2019-20 while JK is still going strong. Barring injury (or poor form) I think we will see a lot of Nelson, Venables, Rioli, Partington, Waterman, Ah Chee, Karpany, Cole and Mutimer. We will see debuts from Venables, Rioli, Waterman, Ryan, Ainsworth, Petruccelle and Olango.

Jetta, LeCras, Cripps and Masten will have to play at a consistently high standard to get regular games. Jetta's contract is up at the end of the year and we may target that to free up more quids for Yeo, Gaff and McGovern re-signings and possibly a top free agency selection. I believe we should throw the kitchen sink at Tom Lynch (Suns) to get him here as a free agent.

The focus will be fast-track development more so than wins and losses.

Olango won't play unless our ruck stocks get decimated, he is a project player.

Watson is one who should get a game. Maybe Brayshaw as well.

But after recruiting Rioli and Ryan in the past two national drafts, coach Adam Simpson said the team would have a more dynamic look in 2018.

“Last year with our side and the balance, we had too many mids in our side,” he said.

“It was probably from the lack of options we had as forwards. You would think with Ryan and Rioli, LeCras and Cripps and someone like a Venables, they will all be playing in the same side and all be playing forward. We will be a different looking side.”

Simpson praised Ryan for how he’d adjusted to being a full-time footballer. The WAFL’s leading goalkicker was overlooked at the 2016 draft but the high flying forward has made an impact during his short time at West Coast.

Good to hear Ryan has adjusted well.

Correct when saying we had too many mids. When you have inside mids playing as crumbing forwards something isn't right.

From reading that article, we may go with a smaller forward line of Kennedy, Darling, Rioli, Ryan, Venebles, Lecras/Cripps. So potentially going in with 1 ruckman and using a back up hack ruck.

That ruck strategy is used for most of the other teams, i cant see why we cant do the same long term. I just don't trust the durability of Natanui or Lycett to even be able to ruck 50% of game time, let alone play more than 25-30 games between them.

If we could get Natanui & Lycett rucking 50/50, they are 2x genuine ruckmen who will give our mids some dominance, that is our ONLY midfield advantage. Based on the past 2 years i cant see this midfield winning their own contested ball.
