At the end of the day noone knows his exact situation but the medicos, but it seems awfully like the decision of a club which feels it has already ticked its boxes for 2017 and isn't very interested in taking risks to advance further.

Petri let slip NN had had a setback since returning to training and the time he went to US the article from the west talks about getting back to athletic normal. Perhaps the setback either mental or physical has set him back.

"Knowles said the camp had achieved its aims but would not predict whether Naitanui, who is due to return to Perth tomorrow, could make it back for this year’s finals series.
“Until he gets to ‘athletic normal’, he won’t be ready to reintegrate into full team training, build the confidence of the coaches to go into competition. So it’s not a calendar date,” he said.
“You must first get back to this fluid athletic normal position and confidence and when that happens you have to lock it in for X number of weeks and own it.
“If that happens before the play-offs begin, great. If it happens after, it’s because it’s the right thing for the long-term interests of this athlete.
“But you can’t short cut this situation, with an ACL, with a big knee injury like he had. You can’t short cut the process, because you’ll get burned by it.”"

In interviews the players have been mentioning that he isn't ready and it is too big of a risk.

A wasted opportunity to play mind games though.

yeah we could have named him, flew him over, prepare him to appear like he was playing, runs out on the field for the warm up, then in the last 5 mins withdraw him haha.

we'd probably get a fine but we can affoard it.

Na, you replace him in the warm up. He can pretend to have knee soreness.

Hope they all go for a swim at Bondi tomorrow .
It is better than the water at Lourdes for the Sydney Swans' recovery sessions .

Wellingham, Masten, Schofield and Karpany were the extra 4 that traveled.

In: Wellingham
Out: Partington

Pitty but not surprising.

Feel a bit for the lad. Worse performers have kept their spot at times. Not surprised though, and if you are going to bring someone in, Wellingham the obvious choice at the moment. Karpany the other I would have put under consideration.

Despair that our depth is so shallow that someone who has been absolutely piss-poor all year travels as emergency.

He has played what 6/7 games in a row. Huge step to AFL level and last week might have left him a little drained.

Would have liked to see him keep going but he will most likely be a regular next year. Who knows if we get passed GWS might get back in.

Reckon Luke P a little bit stiff but probably wasnt good enough for a long enough portion of the game - plus he is quite possibly physically drained being such a young player... having said that he was VERY good at some crunch moments hitting up a lead, wanting the ball and hustling hard which are brilliant signs for a young player. Sharrrod can be very good but he needs to commit and switch on (and play where is can do some damage (i.e. not as a sheepdog half forward...).

Tough one with the emotions hard to get right after last week but GWS play pretty much zero ball defence and mummy is a massive out so GOUEAGLES!

Not playing nic nat makes perfect sense, i think it would be silly to play him.

Ive never seen a player return from a knee recon and fire. I dont expect much from him until 2019.

Just from our team - worsfold lecras mackenzie jakovich all took a long time to regain form or never did.

Playing him now would most likely be an underdone player who does not improve on our current 22 and could even set back recovery. Risk to our form and his knee.

Add Gardiner to the list. Then from other teams when you look at ruckmen, Matthew Primus.
