Yes, so why didn't we make a play for a free-agen midfielder like Tom Rockliff; at the cost of nothing to our draft picks? If he was willing to go to Port I'd have to think we could have been a chance?

Venables is a player who is capable of this as is Shuey and Yeo. In the draft there area a couple of players such as Higgins, Petruccelle and Spargo. I'd rather go to the draft and draft these types of player whilst giving Rioli, Venables and Karpany a chance forward this year as small forwards.

I think we mostly need a pure small forward who will stay on the ground and not consider himself a marking target, plus is prepared to chase hard! Karpany or Rioli might be that player if developed.

I’m concerned that our coaches in recent years have shown an inability to develop players that are not a first round pick or a player we have traded for; unlike Adelaide. If we draft a player like Fasolo – who sounds like he is not exactly what we need – then it will kill the development of players we have or more appropriate players we could draft for. He’d better come cheap.

Agreed. We need more players at the foot of the packs and able to crumb. Cripps does an alright job at this but has serious issues with conversion, especially at critical points in the game.

Also think we need to use a spot in the forward line for resting midfielders. We used to do it with Shuey a lot, but that seems to have dropped off (think it has to do with LeCras not being able to rotate thru the middle any more)

Don't stress, Rioli is the man. He will drag this club into a GF next year. He'll kick 40+ goals and break the heart of the opposition.

Shared Wellingham has been advised (by manager) he has to tread water through the trade period. Clubs are a bit greedy this time of the year and that's just the nature of the beat.

Rhys Palmer not opposed to returning to Western Australia to play if the opportunity arises.

Would we consider this :? :?

And that's it in a nutshell.

Pies will want too much. And then we end up with someone we don't really need and his being at WC would stop development of Rioli/Karpany etc.

Bad move for what we would have to pay and bad move for what we would get and bad move for what it would do for our younger small forwards.

2018 in the small forward line should be...
LeCras - only if 100% fit (he wasn't in 2017) and getting the job done.
Cripps - only if he remembers how to tackle and how to crumb instead of playing as hand-to man 80m from goal, followed by a big run and miss or junk time goal square option.
Rioli - if fit, lots of games.
Karpany - a good run of games.
Hill - Royals or Subiaco, time has come.
Other mids - use the forward line rather than the bench for extra game time for Venables, Partington and other younger mids. Develops tank and smarts and game nous.
2017 sponsor of #5 - Brad (Mr Reliable) Sheppard. 25yo, 100+ games and counting.
2017 sponsor of #6 - Elliot (how good could he be) Yeo. Only 23 and looking to hit 100 career games in 2017.
2017 sponsor of #23 - Lewis (we need this excitement) Jetta. 27yo and heading for 150 career games.
2017 sponsor of #30 - Jackson (he's too good to be only 21) Nelson. 21yo, pick #51 in 2014, a bonus pickup.

Heard/read a stat saying Cripps lead the AFL this season for tackles inside the Fwd 50.
Say what you will about America, but 13 bucks still buys you a hell of a lot of mice!

Can't believe we're getting mentioned with names like Palmer, Spencer, Conca, Fasolo... These are super duds!

I'm concerned with the lack of tenacity from our trading department, we seem to be inquiring with a player long after he's made up his mind. That's the vibe at least.
I hope we did make a play for Rockliff, we shoulda got his best mate Reddy to make the play for him. The fact he chose Port, means he didn't care about going to Victoria, it was mild success and big dollars, I hope it was money that put us off.

We need mids, unfortunately our squad is not structured to 2017 footy, we have plenty of quality talls, which means we play too many, which means smaller dudes have to run more than the opp, and we can't keep pressure up. Having Pridd n Smitch compounded the problem.
We are maybe the only club still playing 2 rucks, I know NicNat can't ruck all day, but our back up should be Gov or Darling or someone who can run. Richmond played one KF and used Grigg as a chop out ruck. They had the runners to be able to crowd the ball and lay pressure.

Other issue is too many defenders and no rotating mids.
Gotta play 10 mids these days, so you need to make room around the ground. Can't have 6 fwds who only play fwd, can't have more than 6 defenders.
If we play the 3 tall defenders (sorry no room for you Schoey, good guy tho)
Then we have 3 spots for small defenders.. but we have a heap, and now we've moved Duggy to HB, aghhgh!
Hurn, Shep, Welly(gone?), Cole, Nelson, Frankie Watson, Rotham, Goiter, DUGGAN!
Yeo plays his best footy in the back half but we have to make him a mid, coz we're soo light on in there.

We still have a bunch after shedding plenty in the last 3 years...
Butler, X.Ellis, Brophy, Bennell, Beau, Jacob Brennan, Adam Carter, Ash Smith, Blayne Wilson, and McGinnity tried to play there.

Venables is the kinda guy, he'll be in the 22 prolly mostly as a fwd, but dudes like him or Hawthorn types like burgoyne, hodge, poppy, rioli, all have a go in the middle and arent lost.

Pretty sure Hill and his wife have headed back to her family in Melbourne.

Role with AFL beckons in retirement.
